I Didn’t Write Today, After 45 Days

I know I am publishing this, bear with me

Since I started on May the first, today is the first time I did not write an entire, or a part of a long-form article. It feels weird.

I will go through both the reasons and the lessons.

Reasons

  • Due to some circumstances, I could not do any work until 12 P.M.
  • I planned on finishing and writing an article about ‘The Great Gatsby’
  • That, obviously, takes time. I am also not(yet) dead outside of Medium or even the internet.
  • I was overwhelmed with ‘The Great Gatsby’, not because I could not understand it, you’ll find out why in my article regarding that.
  • I did not feel I could do the classic justice by rushing my thoughts, so I gave it the time it needed. I think and hope I will be able to do it justice tomorrow when I am a bit more clear about my thoughts.

Lessons

  • While it has not even been 24 hours since I last published, yes, the views do go down, and it should not be surprising. Now that we have that out of the way,
  • I did not notice it. I know I like writing, but I did not notice being away from it for a day. Maybe that’s because I was busy, and read ‘The Great Gatsby’ today, but I did not notice it. Maybe I could do with some of your experiences.
  • I felt I should be writing, but only a couple of times. I have read many articles talking about how a vacation ruined their mental health, and I think I might believe them now. I felt a few times in the day that I should be writing, even when I wasn’t exactly wasting my time. I don’t think that’s healthy.

I know I sounded grave towards the end, so let’s lighten up the mood by seeing how much progress I made on tomorrow’s article.

Don’t laugh, you have been stuck before, too. Anyway, hey! I have a newsletter now! It will be a monthly email, a kind of monologue about literature, writing, philosophy and music, linking the articles I found most useful. It will be delivered on the 19th of every month. Do Subscribe if you are interested.
